“I come from a construction family. My dad is a major commercial contractor, heading multi million dollar projects. I spent a lot of time on construction sites, learned to read plans and blueprints from an early age, and was confident with measuring tapes, levels, stud finders, drills, & geometry even as a kid.
We moved frequently, as these builds would take 8 months to 3 years, we would relocate to be close to the job site on each project. We built our own home &/or rented along the way. Wether we were planning a new build or decorating & fixing up an existing space, each new location provided an opportunity to house hunt and explore new layouts and design materials.
Every new city was a chance to start fresh with our decor. I would draw out our new home to scale and would measure & cut out pieces of paper as “furniture”, and would slide the little furniture cut outs it all around the drawn room to plan the furniture layouts. Other little girls played paper dolls, I played paper designs!
In school, math was always my best subject, I even thought that I wanted to be an accountant when I grew up. Building a strong and thorough budget is the backbone of any successful design project, and knowing how to calculate spacial & material quantity is a necessity for accuracy, so my passion for math has found a home in design.
I have always had an eye for how to balance & create harmony in a space. I can undoubtedly make it beautiful. More importantly though, I understand that a home needs to function first. One of the most valuable assets of a good designer is planning a space that is easy to live in and operates smoothly & uniquely to the people who inhabit it. That is always the primary goal. Pretty frosting is pointless if the cake doesn’t taste good.
As much fun it is to shop for brand new or name brand items, I will always love a good thrift store, garage sale, and even (don’t judge me!) a side of the road find. I feel good when I can breathe life into an old item, and I know that it’s better for the planet. For this reason, I try to utilize as many of the clients existing items as possible. I also attempt to sell all items that are pulled out of the project- which is great for the client because those proceeds go back into the budget! So many of the fun decor splurges come from selling off items that would otherwise go in the trash. So if you know someone who needs a used toilet, I can probably help!
I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty, and more often than not I end up taking on some of the labor- paint, spackle, hanging decor items, up cycling furniture, installing accent walls, building cabinetry… I treat your project as if it were my own home, and try to save you money any where I can. I encourage any of my clients who aren’t scared to throw on a hard hat to DIY along with me!
At the end of the day, I want your home to be your favorite place, and I know I can help you achieve that. A huge budget is not a requirement for a beautiful space. Often times it just takes a fresh set of eyes and a few good ideas to make it all come together.
