Absolutely.
Not necessarily! We specialize in creating designs that elevate your own personal style, and we can often do that by using your own items, or by blending your existing pieces with new furniture and decor. If you prefer, we can also help you source and select new items to complement your current collection.
We work on projects of all sizes and will work with any style! We believe that having a strong budget plan is the foundation on a successful project. That said, the budget must be realistic. Fortunately, at Sage & Symmetry we know what real world materials cost and how to accurately estimate the quantities of materials that will be needed, so we can help you establish a realistic budget. It is because we take a no nonsense approach to being budget forward that we regularly see our projects finish under budget.
Functionality is the first pilar of good design, but in the case of interiors, much of the functionality depends on the lifestyles of the individuals who live in or utilize the space. Learning about the inhabitants and their routines & personalities via our Design Questionnaire assures that our projects are always tailored to functions and personalities of the people who matter most to the design- You!
Yes! We offer full project management services, including taking bids, coordinating with contractors, overseeing the implementation of the design, and ensuring everything runs smoothly on schedule and within budget.
Both! We have many skilled professionals in our network that we can call in to bid on your project, and we know what their strongest skills are so that we can help to select the best fit for your particular project. We also routinely gather referrals and recommendations for contractors and trades people, so even if all of our go-to sources are on other projects, we always have new options available. If you prefer to bring in your own crews, we are always happy to make new connections! Some of our most used contractors were initially brought to us by clients!
Yes. Even simple decorative projects require someone to load up all the materials, hang the curtains & artwork, build the bookshelves, etc, so we have several go to handy people that we use regularly. They tend to charge by the hour, depending on the project, and their fees are not included in design services. If you'd like to schedule a handyman, click here for more info or email paul@sage-symmetry.com with details on the job you'd like to have done.
We primarily utilize flat rates based on the scope of work. We evaluate the time commitment, our standard hourly amount, the total budget of the project, the square footage, the amount of customization & detailing, and the creative desirability when determining the flat rate price. We will typically offer a-la-cart price points for the individual spaces & services in the scope, as well as a custom package rate for multiple spaces &/or services.
We are do offer hourly where it makes sense.
Our standard rate is $250/ hour with a 10 hour minimum starting point.
Our package add-on rate is $175/hour at a 5 hour minimum.
While it depends on the scope of work, in all full service projects we include a Materials Budget Allocation Estimate. To determine the total amount of the Budget, we either use the amount that you have planned to use for your project and work backwards. Or, If you are unsure what you would like to spend, then we will use your style preferences as a guideline to creating the budget based on realistic costs.
We breakdown all of the spaces, all of the items that will be needed in the space, and give each area an allocation amount. We present this budget to you and allow you to make changes to it, up or down, and once its agreed upon, that is the materials amount that we will spend on your project. You "cut the check" (or use one of the many digital payment options) for that amount, and any item that we propose for your project will fit within that total amount. If we save money on one item, we may use it to splurge on another.
Once the project is fully completed, we send over a final invoice listing all of the items purchased and the amount charged for each, with a refund amount for any leftover balance. Because we are so strict on our budget plans, we do commonly have a remaining balance to refund. Most of our clients chose to leave that balance as a tip to their designer, others request to purchase additional items with it, and a few prefer to be sent the remaining balance.
The shortest answer is that changes equal delays. There may also be additional costs, such as change orders with contractors, additions to scope, and increase in materials depending on what the change is. As far as design goes, every element is selected to create balance, so one small change can create a domino affect of multiple changes needed in order to maintain that balance. The good news is that the design phase is the best time to make the decisions and changes, before the expenses of construction & purchasing begin, and we offer visualization tools such as mock-ups & 3d renderings, so that you will have the tools to feel confident in the selections!
Yes! We are primarily a full service local interior design firm! We do offer virtual, e-design, distance design, and hybrid design as well. We have many beautiful projects out there in the world that we have never physically set foot in!
For Full service projects that require Project Management, routine site visits are necessary, which may require travel by our Designer &/or Project Mgmt.
As a retailer, we do have preferred manufacturers that we count on and are confident in the quality & service of. While we try to guide our clients to those tried and true products, we are always open to new brands and sources. We generally give clients a heads up if an item that we are considering is a brand we are unfamiliar with, and we research new brands within our design community & designer peer network.
If a client comes to us with a retailer item, we will generally attempt to determine the direct manufacturer to source the item directly, or from a trusted partner.
Yes! We can help other designers, contractors, and decorators to access wholesale & trade products. We also offer B2B rates for Elevations, Renderings, and Design Consultation. Finally, we offer Design Business Consultation to those designers who are looking to start their business and need mentorship.

Absolutely! You can purchase any home items directly from Sage & Symmetry, including those that are available to the public. In fact, we try to beat other retailers pricing whenever we can! If we can save you money while making money, that's the goal!
Yes, we provide 3D renderings and design mock-ups to give you a clear visual of what the finished space will look like. This helps you visualize the design before any work begins.
Your involvement is up to you! Some clients prefer to be hands-on and very involved in the process, while others simply want to show up to a beautiful finished product! We’ll keep you informed and involved as much or as little as you'd like.
We work on a variety of spaces, including all aspects of residential homes- bathrooms, kitchens, play rooms, movie theatres, garages, you name it! We also take on commercial offices, retail spaces, and hospitality areas. No matter the type of space, we tailor our design services to meet your specific needs, style, and vision.
The timeline for a design project varies based on the size and complexity. Smaller projects may take a few weeks, while larger ones may take years.
Every project is completely different, from the style, the scope, the size, and so there really is not one set rate for all projects. This is a very loose guideline of full service design fees, not including project management or materials. Package rates with multiple rooms, &/or lower level scope can drive these rates down, large amount of custom work, millwork, square footage, etc can drive the rates up.
